John Deere 5050E - Bleed Fuel System Problems

Final Fuel Filter

  • The fuel system can be bled in two places: the final fuel filter or the fuel injection pump.
  • Open the bleed screw.
  • Have a second person pump the hand primer on the fuel transfer pump.
  • When no air bubbles are visible, close the vent screw.
  • Pump the hand primer until resistance is felt.
  • Repeat the operation until no air bubbles come out of the bleed screw.
  • Then tighten the bleed screw.

Fuel Injection Pump

  • Loosen the fuel return line at the fuel injection pump.
  • Have a second person pump the hand primer on the fuel transfer pump.
  • When no air bubbles are seen, tighten the fuel return line.
  • Pump the hand primer until resistance is felt.
  • Repeat the operation until no air bubbles come out of the fuel return line.
  • Next, tighten the fuel return line. Fuel return line torque – 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
