John Deere 5050 leaking coolant

John Deere 5050 leaking coolant Problems

A month ago I was loading manure with our 5050 and the temp gauge was heading 3/4 of the way.

I stopped and turned the heater on high, which usually brings the temperature down right away if the radiator vents are clogged. The hood and side shields were clean so I thought that was unlikely.

The temperature did not drop after a few minutes. So I checked the coolant and added 1.5 gallons to bring it to full level. I added a quart a couple weeks ago and another gallon tonight.

He does not appear to be smoking white and runs well. The oil does not appear milky. Any idea where all this coolant is going? When I open the cap, even when the engine is cold, there is pressure in the coolant reservoir.

After adding that gallon tonight I started it up and let it run for maybe a minute with the cap removed and the water was still cold but it seemed like steam was coming out of the tank. Could it be compression gases? Any ideas are appreciated.

How many hours does the speed / hour meter show?

Has the engine overheated ever? One possibility is that the cylinder head gasket has a leak or that the cylinder head is cracked.
